Dream family holiday for charity couple

Jennifer and Andy Gill, who hold regular fund-raising activities in Kirkcaldy’s St Clair Street, established LoveOliver in 2011 to help fund research into childhood cancer, while providing practical help and support to families affected by the condition.

Their son Oliver was born in July 2010 with a very rare and aggressive form of cancer, and tragically passed away on Christmas Day that year.

It had always been the family’s ambition to take Oliver to see the fireworks at Disneyland when he’d finished his treatment.

And in stepped Barrhead Travel, which provided the Leven couple and their two sons, Micah and Rory, with a family adventure at Disneyland Paris.

Deeply thankful for the experience, Jennifer, a religious studies teacher at Waid Academy, and Andy, who teaches maths at Glenwood High School in Glenrothes, reckoned the magical memories would live with them forever.

“It was certainly a very emotional moment for myself and Andy. The fireworks at Disneyland were meant to be the light at the end of the tunnel with Oliver when he finished treatment,” said Jennifer.

“Yet there we were, five years later, with his two little brothers on a special and magical adventure that we’ll treasure for the rest of our lives.

“Both Micah and Rory are still too young to understand why it was as bittersweet as it was exciting, and that they got to enjoy this amazing gift because of their gorgeous and inspirational big brother.”
