There will be a chance to check out a rare East Neuk view next month.

The Mail recently reported on the panorama that could be enjoyed from St Nicholas’ Tower and the newly-refurbished Dreel Halls in Anstruther.

And the public is now being given an opportunity to take it in for themselves during this year’s Doors Open Days in September.

The tower’s 16th century parapet offers a craw’s nest view of Anster harbour and surrounding coastline and isn’t a platform that is generally available.

Normally under lock and key, the recently restored tower was saved as part of major restoration project that transformed the historic building into a community venue.

During Doors Open Day the adventurous and inquisitive will have a unique opportunity to climb the tower’s winding stairs and experience the stunning views from the parapet, all the way to the Isle of May.

Access to the tower and parapet at Dreel Halls will be on Sunday, September 7, from 11am till 4pm.

Volunteers from the Anstruther Improvements Association (AIA), which now owns and manages Dreel Halls, will be on hand to talk about the restoration project and their exciting plans for the internal renovation of the hisotric buildings.

Elizabeth Gordon, president of the AIA, said: “Having climbed the St Nicholas Tower, I can vouch that the view from the parapet is breathtaking, well worth the effort.”

The AIA’s renowned hospitality will also be in place with refreshments and home baking available throughout the event.

The Doors Open Days event is organised annually by the Scottish Civic Trust as part of European Heritage Days.

Fife Council is coordinating local events, with over 70 venues opening their doors across

the region during three weekends in September.
