The latest improvements will involve repairs and resurfacing to a total of just over a kilometre of the northbound concrete carriageway between Junction 5 (Gairneybridge) and Junction 6 (Kinross).

The road maintenance will last for 11 days, with a contraflow system in place for the safety of the workforce as well as motorists.

The remaining phase of the carriageway resurfacing is scheduled for June later this year.

The works are part of a £2 million investment from Transport Scotland into improving the carriageway, which has already seen enhancements carried out between Junctions 3 to 4, Junctions 4 to 5 and the northbound off-slip since April this year as part of the maintenance programme.

The M90 at this section is used by almost 30,000 vehicles a day and the maintenance works will enhance the safety of the road.

Andy Thompson, BEAR Scotland’s north east representative, said: “The improvement programme for the M90 in progressing well, and the next phase of work will help ensure our network continues to operate to the highest standard.

“The £2m investment from Transport Scotland allows us to carry out these essential road repairs to the concrete carriageway which will create a smoother and safer journey for motorists.

“We’re carrying out the works prior to the peak summer period to minimise disruption, however we would encourage motorists to plan their journeys in advance and visit the Traffic Scotland website for travel information before setting out.”

The works will be carried out by BEAR Scotland and have been planned in consultation with Police Scotland, Perth and Kinross Council and Transport Scotland.
