For supporters of Dunfermline Athletic have gone to extraordinary lengths overnight to poke fun at fans of the Starks Park side with the unfurling of banners ridiculing Rovers’ defeat to Hibernian on Saturday, which sent them crashing out of the end of season promotion play-off semi final.

Pranksters have pinned three large banners to a railway embankment in the shadow of the ground and visible from a busy approach road into Kirkcaldy, which read ‘You blew it - now we are coming for you! DAFC 1885’.

Dunfermline Athletic have languished in the lower echelons of Scottish football for the last two seasons while their Kirkcaldy rivals tasted glory winning the Scottish Challenge Cup in 2014.

But with Rovers’s failure to progress to the Scottish Premiership and Athletic’s run away League Two promotion success, fans of the Dunfermline side clearly fancy their chances and are eager to renew the rivalry between the Kingdom’s two biggest clubs.
