From Monday, priority will be placed on collecting blue and brown bins – or general and food/garden waste.

Brown bins will go to a monthly collection instead of fortnightly.

Green and grey bins – plastic and tin, and paper bins – will be collected where possible.

Fife Council have announced the changes due to a shortage in staff because of the coronavirus crisis.

In a statement, the local authority said: “Due to reduced staffing levels as a result of Covid-19 we are concentrating our resources on emptying landfill and food/garden waste bins.

“There may be disruption to some plastic/can and paper/card routes.

“Please continue to put all your scheduled bins out for 6am on your collection day.

“If your paper/card or plastic/can bin is not emptied please leave it out and we will try to return to empty it.

“From Monday, March 30 we will be returning to the four weekly winter brown bin collections for the duration of the lock down.

“This will allow us to empty all waste and recycling streams.

“If you have any concerns about excess food waste then please place this in your blue landfill bin during this time.

“We are currently working to revise the online bin calendars to reflect this temporary change to four weekly brown bin collections.

“Please look out for your neighbours and check that they are able to put their bins out.

“It may not be possible to come back for missed bins until your next scheduled collection day.”
