With many people regularly using the Fife Coastal Path for their daily exercise to walk, run, or cycle, the closure could present problems.

Fife Coast & Countryside Trust, which manages the coastline, issued a statement on social media warning walkers of the danger.

It told people to avoid the area until further notice.

It said: “Due to coastal erosion significant damage has taken place on the stretch of the Fife Coastal Path at West Wemyss harbour and therefore the Coastal Path is closed to Public Access from Edington Place (Dysart) top West Wemyss.

“The land manager has arranged for remedial works to take place and therefore walkers are advised to avoid the area until further notice.”
