At a recent meeting the Community Council of Kingsbarns declared a climate emergency, thought to be the first made by any community council in the East Neuk of Fife.

The declaration is in line with similar declarations by the Scottish Government and Fife Council.

The declaration allows Kingsbarns CC to take any necessary actions to mitigate climate change effects on its community and also to support all measures to reduce those effects.

It also commits the community council to consider the environmental implications of all decisions and actions it may take in the future.

Vice-chairwoman Sue Jenkins said: “This declaration is vital to embed the village of Kingsbarns in Scotland’s future plans to cope with and limit any and all negative effects of climate change.”

The implementation of the declaration was approved unanimously and will be adopted at once.
