Mossmorran flare warning as plant set to halt for major works

Mossmorran’s operators have warned local communities some flaring may take place as it stands down the plant ahead of starting its £140m investment project.

The advisory came in an update this week as Fife Ethylene Plant prepares for major works to start.

Timings have yet to be finalised, but it will be after the Easter holidays.

ExxonMobil operators of the plant, said it hadtaken a number of steps to limit the total volume of flaring necessary,

A spokesman said: A” limited period of elevated flaring will be required for the safe stand down of operations ahead of our £140m investment project.

‘’We are currently finalising the exact timings, but can confirm it will be after the Easter holidays.

‘’We have aligned our work with maintenance in the North Sea and have taken a series of additional actions that together will reduce the total volume of necessary flaring.”He added: “We are committed to ensuring communities are fully updated on progress with this major plant upgrade.’’
