The week-long work will begin on Thursday.

The dredging team will work around the tidal conditions and it is likely that they will need to operate through the night.

Ashley Nicholson, senior harbour master said: “This essential dredging work will keep the navigational channel into Kirkcaldy Harbour free of the ongoing natural build-up of silt and sand to ensure that the vessels arriving for Carr’s Milling have safe passage to the quayside.

“There will be some noise and we appreciate the patience of our local Kirkcaldy residents while we undertake this work.”

The Lang Toun’s harbour area is regularly dredged to remove the natural build-up of silt to ensure that the harbour is safe and accessible for ships arriving at the quayside.

It hosts around 42 vessel calls per year, the majority of which are cargo ships with essential wheat for the Carr’s Milling plant on site at the harbour.
