Playtime is about to get a whole lot more exciting for youngsters in Collydean after funding was approved for a new park facility in the area.

Residents approached councillors with plans to renovate the play park in Ellon Park, Collydean which has fallen into disrepair.

Councillors at last week’s Glenrothes Area Committee gave the green light for plans after they approved a request for £10,000 towards the £40,850 total cost of the project.

The money will now be added to funds already secured to kick start phase one of the project which expected to commence in May.

Duncan Mitchell from Fife Employment Access trust who made the application on behalf of the residents said the finished project would transform the area for hundreds of people.

“We are delighted that we can now press on and get the first phase of construction under way,” said Duncan.

“We have accepted the help of Glenrothes Territorial Army who’ll be sending around 25 staff to help with the initial groundwork, which another big boost in making this play park happen.

“Residents are also interested in getting involved in what ever way they can and it’s a classic example of how with the help of funding you can empower the residents to make a lasting difference to the community they live in.”

The finished play park is set to feature a range of attractions including a rope walk, balancing beams, scramble net and a multi functional climbing frame.
