Family of Logan call on new minister to honour A92 pledge

Robert Brown has written to Humza Yousef MSP, who took over the role from Derek Mackay following last week’s cabinet reshuffle, urging him not to lose sight of the family’s campaign for safety improvements on a notorious stretch of the A92 trunk road in Glenrothes.

Mr Brown’s nine-year-old grandson was killed while trying to cross the A92 in February 2015.

Since then Mr Brown and his family have been campaigning for a review of safety on the A92 and last July received assurances from the then transport minister Derk Mackay when he visited the crash site, that improvements needed to be found.

“We need the new minister to understand the urgency of these improvements and to honour the commitment made by his predecessor,” said Mr Brown. “We don’t want him to lose sight of that and have safety on the A92 knocked down the list of priorities.”

A draft assessment of changes was submitted to the minister in March but no response could be given in the lead up to the Scottish Parlimentary election.

Now Mr Brown has confirmed with Transport Scotland representatives that a number of improvement have been recommended.

Among them are a reduction in the speed limit to 40mph on the A92 between Balfarg and Cadham junctions, an extension of pedestrian pathway and speed calming signage.

“From my conversation with Transport Scotland these improvements are likely to be approved but I am also keen to see a traffic island and rumble strips included,” Mr Brown added.
