Fife charity gives thanks following string of break-ins

The offices of the Fife Employment Access Trust (FEAT) at Silverburn were broken into three times in just over a week, with thieves making off with cash, IT equipment and a tablet.

During the latest incident on Tuesday night the criminals targeted the storage container, using a bolt cutter to break in, and stole equipment worth over £1000.

Duncan Mitchell, FEAT manager said since news of the robberies had spread, he had been offered support from many individuals and organisations.

He said: “EC Cleaning Services in Kirkcaldy offered their generator so the bouncy castle can still run at the music festival next weekend, as did Fife Youth Group, but Bedlam Promotions have come in and said they’ll provide the whole shooting match, castle and generator, so that’s great.

“Albany Insurance in Glenrothes have also pledged £100 of additional event insurance for the day which is great too.

“So despite the woes of last week, have to say a huge thanks to the community at large for their support.”

Mr Mitchell said there was one particularly poignant contribution.

“One elderly gentleman also popped into the office and donated £10, which in some ways was the best gesture of them all.”

The charity has now beefed up its security. Mr Mitchell said: “We’ve now got alarms and cameras in the office and container.

“Police Scotland have been great and are doing night time visits regularly so perhaps we’re over this, though of course we’re not complacent by any means.”
