Fife Council clears up confusion after primary school menus are given out

The pix and mix option, which includes sandwiches and fruit, will still be available.

Parents and guardians across Fife have been given reassurances that the pick & mix option for school meals at primary schools in the region will still be available from August.

There was confusion among some parents because, despite a statement from Fife Council leader David Ross assuring them of a re-think on the decision to remove the option, some pupils were still sent home with the revised menu.

But the Council has admitted that these were given out in error and that a text message had been sent to parents to tell them the option will still be available after the summer holidays.

Angus Thomson, senior manager (catering & cleaning & facilities management), said: “The menus for next year were printed and distributed to parents before the decision was made to reinstate the pick and mix option.

“We can assure parents that when the children return to school after the summer, there will be a choice of a hot meal or a pick and mix option.”

A petition which was set up in the wake of the menu change earlier this month gathered nearly 4000 signatures and led to a rallying call from parents to the council to reverse the decision.

And in a spectacular U-turn, council leader David Ross announced just days after the petition had been set up that the pick and mix option would be available in August.
