The Fife Free Press has been named ‘Scottish Weekly Newspaper of the Year’ for the second year running.
The accolade came at the 2016 Scottish Press Awards staged in Glasgow on Thursday night.
The Press was one of six titles shortlisted by the judges, and took the honours ahead of runners-up, the Ayrshire Post.
Four other papers, including our sister title, the Falkirk Herald, were shortlisted
The Press was also the winner at the 2015 event.
The FFP is the flagship title of Johnston Press’ operations in the Kingdom, and its entry to the 2016 awards included front pages highlighting the shock closure of the Strathearn Hotel and staff being paid their wages in pennies; a hard-hitting front page on 10 key questions over the Sheku Bayoh investigation, and our campaign to save Kirkcaldy’s Tesco store, which drew praise from the judges.
