Fife groups urged to apply for heritage lottery funding

Community groups and organisations are being urged to apply for a share of £1 millon worth of Heritage Lottery funding as part of World War I commemorations.

Glenrothes and Central Fife MP Peter Grant t recently learned more about how the funds, as part of the ‘First World War: Then and Now’ programme, is helping to support community projects that focus not just on the events of the Great War, but also on the lasting changes the war brought about.

And with grants ranging from £3,000 to £10,000 that enables groups to explore, conserve and share their First World War heritage, he is hoping as many groups as possible take up on the offer.

“Like many areas across the UK, the impact of the First World War on the people of Fife was extensive. ” Mr Grant told the Gazette.

“Therefore this is a great opportunity for those who want to find out more about its legacy or who wish to mark the centenary, to be able to do so.

“I would encourage community councils, schools and local clubs to get in touch with HLF, whether you want to build a memorial, put on a play, research local stories or do something else entirely to uncover stories about the war.”
