A group of second year HND Practical Journalism students from Fife College have produced a brand new magazine as part of their course.
The 36 page full colour magazine is called Hashtag Overload and takes as its theme the power of social media in dictating trends in popular culture.
It includes features on current hot topics, such as online gaming, Tinder, Kanye West and Zoella, as well as sport, travel and diet pages.
Ross Gardiner (19), from Perth, was chosen to be the magazine’s editor.
He said the class ‘sweated ink, sweat and tears’ to get it ready.
He said: “We had a blast making the magazine, albeit a stressful blast.
“I can only hope students enjoy reading it as much as we enjoyed producing it!”
Last year’s journalism class set the bar high when their effort went on to win Publication of the Year at the Scottish Student Journalism Awards, but lecturer Marie Penman is confident that this year’s magazine will not disappoint.
“There are only eight students in this class and they formed a great team to make sure the magazine turned out the way they wanted it to,” she said.
“Ross was a star as editor, and special mention also goes to creative genius Andrew McArthur, who handled almost all of the design.”
The magazine has been professionally printed by McGilvray’s in Dysart, and had its official launch in the atrium of the St Brycedale Campus of Fife College on Friday.
At the launch the students set up a table giving away free juice, crisps and sweets and played a booming Kanye West soundtrack throughout, to tie in with our cover star.
