Fife meeting on womens' pensions to take place

And later this month he will be hosting an open meeting in Cupar, with leading campaigner Mhairi Black MP, to explain the changes, what they mean to women in their 50s and hear the concerns of local women and men.

Ms Black has been working with campaign group Women Against State Pension Inequality (WASPI) to call for the UK Government to rethink its plans, which sees the state pension age for women rise to 67 over the next few years.

Now Mr Gethins has organised the event after being contacted by a number of constituents concerned about the financial implications of the changes.

He said: “I have been contacted by numerous constituents who are very worried about what the changes mean for them and their future income, and have organised the event to give people the chance to hear more about what Mhairi and our colleagues at Westminster are doing to support them.

“Mhairi sits on the Parliament’s Work and Pensions committee and has been pressing it to recommend that the UK Government revisit its transitional arrangements.”

Ms Black, MP for Paisley and Renfrewshire South, said: “The WASPI campaign has struck a chord with so many women throughout the country, and hundreds of them have been in touch with myself to share their experiences. In light of this I am very excited to attend this public meeting to engage with many more of the women affected.”
