Fife mum's agaony as daughter (4) goes missing

Four-and-half year-old Mia Nogly went missing after spending an access weekend with her father Thomasz.

Her mum Justiyna (32) went to pick her up as usual at 5pm on June 26 but became frantic when no-one turned up.

She and her partner Derek Miller (54) reported her disappearance to the police but now they say they ‘want answers’ as to why it was treated as a missing person case rather than an abduction.

They claim another girl’s passport was used to take Mia out of the country.

The little girl was eventually found safe and well in Poland.

“We feel Police Scotland should be held accountable for the delay in finding Mia,” said Derek.

“She was gone for a full nine days for her to be returned to her mother because of the lack of urgency on their part. We’ve had to face so much red tape and bureaucracy that Justiyna is exhausted.”

The couple sat in the Polish Embassy in Edinburgh for the best part of Tuesday while Justiyna waited for an emergency passport to be issued so she could travel to Poland armed with the documentation she needed to bring Mia home.

She set off early yesterday morning for Krakow, where her sister Karina was due to meet her.

The pair then faced a two-hour drive to their home town to meet with a solicitor.

Chief Inspector Stevie Hamilton, local area commander for Central Fife, said: “Following a report that four-year-old from Kirkcaldy had been removed from the country without her mother’s consent, Police Scotland carried out a robust investigation and liaised with a number of agencies to establish her whereabouts.

“After approaching authorities in Poland, inquiries were quickly carried out and the child was located and found to be safe.

“Enquiries into the circumstances continue and a man has been reported to the Procurator Fiscal in connection with this incident.”
