Fife parents reassured following threats to schools in central Scotland

The message comes after a number of schools in central Scotland received threats by telephone, with some schools having to be evacuated as a precaution.

Schools in Ayr, Carluke, Edinburgh, East and West Lothian and East Kilbride have all been affected.

But police in Fife, as well as Fife Council, have reassured parents who have children at schools across the Kingdom that no schools in Fife have received threats at this point, and none have had to be evactuated.

Assistant Chief Constable Steve Johnson said earlier: “A number of schools across the central belt have received a threat via the telephone.

“Police Scotland would like to reassure the public that at present these do not appear to be credible threats, however they are being taken seriously.

“Staff and police are working with local authorities and are currently searching school buildings. Some schools as a precautionary measure, have been evacuated. Signficant enquiries are underway.”

In Fife, in a statement posted on its Facebook and Twitter pages, Fife Council said: “We’d like to reassure parents that at this point no Fife schools have been involved in any threats and none of our schools have been evacuted.”

Police in Fife also reassured parents via its official Facebook page.
