Fife street blocked off as firefighters tackle blaze

Police blocked traffic from entering Mill Street in Kirkcaldy yesterday afternoon while the fire brigade dealt with the incident.

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: "We were alerted at 3.58pm on Tuesday, September 1 to reports of a fire in a block of flats at Mill Street, Kirkcaldy.

"Operations Control mobilised four appliances to the four-storey building, where residents were evacuated as firefighters worked to extinguish the fire.

"There were no reported casualties.

"Crews assisted local authority partners to support all those affected."

Police Scotland confirmed officers were there to help with traffic management.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “We were alerted to reports of a fire on Mill Street, Kirkcaldy around 4.30pm by the partners at the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service.

“Officers were in attendance to assist with traffic management.”
