The Met Office has extended the Amber weather warning until tomorrow morning, with public transport all but shut down.

The Met Office said of the Amber Warning extension: “Frequent and often heavy snow showers are expected to continue through Thursday and overnight into Friday morning with further significant accumulations likely.

“Long delays and cancellations on bus, rail and air travel could occur. Roads may become blocked by deep snow, with many stranded vehicles and passengers.

“Some rural communities might be cut off for several days. Long interruptions to power supplies and other services such as telephone and mobile phone networks, could occur.”

Fife Schools are closed for Friday, with Fife College closed on Friday and Saturday - hopefully opening on Monday.

The Red Warning for Snow expired at 10am, but those hoping the situation will improve will be disappointed.

While most transport, education, and council facilities are closed today and tomorrow, a further Yellow Warning is in place till Sunday.

This means there is still significant risk to those venuting out, and the Police Scotland warning against travel remains in place.

Stagecoach says no bus services will run today.

NHS Fife says all outpatient appointments are cancelled for today, along with all Planned Elective Surgery, unless you are contacted directly.

In a statement, the NHS added: “Every effort is being made to continue with a small programme of Elective Surgery tomorrow.
