Flooding in Kirkcaldy street to finally drain away...

Residents in the Kirkcaldy street have had to negotiate two huge puddles every time it rains with the path becoming impassable at it’s worst.

John Crowe, who has lived in Valley Gardens for the last five years, said: “If it rains really heavily you can’t get down the path at all. It’s been like that the whole time I’ve lived here and it’s getting worse.”

John said he first reported the problem a couple of years ago.

“A representative from Fife Council came out and had a look at it then.

“As well as the rain water collecting, mud slides down from the grass verge which makes it slippy, so the council said that they could maybe build a wall to stop that happening.

“But that was the last I heard and they haven’t been back since.”

John said that the problem has worsened since then, with water collecting at two different parts of the path which runs along the front of his block, so he reported again it two weeks ago.

“The council told me someone from environment would contact me but I’ve heard nothing.”

He added: “I’ve slipped out there a couple of times myself. It’s dangerous.

“My mother-in-law is staying with us just now. She’s elderly and if it rains she can’t go out as she can’t walk through puddles. That’s how bad it is.

“For the elderly or infirm who live on this part of the street, if it rains heavily, they are literally trapped.”

But there is good news, with Fife Council confirming it is to fix the path.

Sandy Dall, lead professional roads network management said: “The footpath has now been added to our programme of works and resurfacing should start in the next month or so.”
