A local section of the Facebook-based Frack Off (Fife) group, covering Levenmouth and beyond, is taking shape.
The movement against the process of unconventional extraction of resources, particulalry gas, in the UK is focusing more intently on the Scottish central belt. Areas of the Kingdom, including Largo Bay, are under licence for exploration, although no planning applications have been received or permission granted.
A meeting on Thursday in Methil Community Learning Centre was attended by Frack Off supporters from Levenmouth, Kirkcaldy, Burntisland, Cardenden, Glenrothes and Markinch. Campaigners agreed to draw up posters and leaflets and hopefully engage with the public to tell them more about the process, by setting up street stalls and having a presence in public places.
Another meeting is due on December 11 to discuss the group’s structure, with the venue to be finalised. A main aim is to seek Scottish Government legislation preventing the process from happening.
