The former chairman of East Fife FC is to stand trial accused of scamming more than £35,000 in disability benefits.

William Gray, who was also chairman at Raith Rovers for a spell, is accused of claiming incapacity benefit that he was not entitled to for more than eight years between 2004 and 2012.

Prosecutors say he failed to give notification to the Department for Work and Pensions of a change in circumstances that he knew would affect his entitlement to incapacity benefit.

In all he is alleged to have taken £35,400.13 that he was not entitled to.

Gray, 61, of Dean Gardens, Kirkcaldy, appeared at Kirkcaldy Sheriff Court to answer the charge under the Social Security Administration Act on indictment.

A trial date was set in September.
