Universal You

Formed from the remains of defunct Edinburgh outfit Kinky Durakee in 2004, Kirkcaldy band Universal You started as a three piece and initially had a melodic pop sound with a layering of funk over the top.

Lead singer Gulzhan Ibraveya, who goes by the stage name Gi, first met Paul Finnie in her home country of Kazakhstan when both were working in the oil business.

They started writing songs together and performing for their co-workers and the locals.

Their first single, ‘Your Sin City’, was released to rave reviews and gained considerable media coverage worldwide.

After releasing two rock influenced albums the band returned last year with a slimmed-down line-up and a whole new sound.

Now a two-piece, Universal You followed their long held ambition to find a groove on the dance floor and in doing so allowed their guitar riffs to organically grow and blend with their affection of the current dance and club scenes.

In 2013 they released ‘MMXIII - I’ a four track EP that included a version of Simple Minds ‘Love Song’ which combined their own potent and diverse musical DNA to create a throbbing dance track with razor sharp guitar hooks and Gulzhan’s sensual vocals. A new single and video is due soon.
