HOUSEHOLDERS and businesses in rural areas of Fife are being urged to check the security of oil tanks, following fuel thefts in north east Fife.
PC Paul Buttercase, community safety officer for north east Fife said: “There have been two thefts of heating oil reported in the past fortnight.
“Fuel prices are set to remain high, if not rise, and there is every reason to suspect this type of theft will continue.”
Because of the rural nature of some properties in north east Fife, oil-fired heaters with the associated external storage tanks are still a common form of heating.
Those with such systems are being advised to secure tanks, gates and locking posts on their property, to make it as difficult as possible for thieves.
Anyone with information on the recent thefts is asked to call 0845 600 5702.
