Fundraising effort leads to great new look for Tayport playpark

Work has begun to transform the council-owned park on Queen Street after a donation of an incredible £150,000 from the Tayport Top Park Group (TTPG).

Treasurer Stephanie Forbes says their will be two phases to the work; phase one will see the creation of a new playpark and parkour area, while a skate park will be built in phase two.

Contractors estimate that with good weather phase one will be complete within three to five week.

Stephanie said: “This all began with a group of young guys looking for somewhere to skate.

“They’re a great group, really enthusiastic and were looking for help so they approached Councillor Bill Connor, who has been incredibly helpful and supportive right throughout.

“He encouraged them to organise themselves and form a fundraising group, so it started from there.”

TTPG was formed and began a hectic period of fundraising, which included a Halloween night, car boot sales, bingo evenings and more.

And with a £50,000 grant form Fife Environment Trust managed to raise £150,000.

Cllr Connor was full of praise for TTPG saying he was “proud” of what they have achieved.

“They’ve done so well, he said.

“Rather than wait around for Fife Council to do something with the park, they got together and did it themselves.

“We meet every Monday and they’ve never missed a meeting and they’ve helped with other vents in the town like the gala.

“Their perseverance and enthusiasm has been overwhelming.”

Cllr Connor points out that the design of the playpark, which was made by the group, includes area which are accessible for disabled children.

“We’ve had help from other organisations in Tayport and Allan Bissett at Fife Council has been great also.

“I’m so pleased with this park.”

The group now plan to continue to raise funds to secure the money needed for phase two.

Stephanie said: “We’ve already got some money but this is an ongoing project so we’ve a lot of work to do.”
