MOTORISTS driving across Leven’s Bawbee Bridge in the early hours of Sunday morning will have witnessed this unusual sight – a gigantic abnormal load about to wind its way through the Kingdom.
The load, a massive gas turbine weighing 213 tonnes, destined for Markinch-based paper maker Tullis Russell’s bio-mass plant, began its journey from Methil Docks at 10pm on Saturday, arriving on site at 8am the following day.
The turbine was carried on a 5.7-metre wide and 40-metre long flat top trailer and tractor unit, moving at a maximum speed of 12mph throughout the night. Police accompanied the load along its route, covering the A955, B932, A915 and A911.
