Glenrothes British Legion branch set to continue

The club, one of the oldest in the town, may have closed, but its members plan to keep the branch flag flying into the future.

That’s the vow made by Colin Riddle, branch president of Glenrothes British Legion following the club’s demise after more than fifty years.

“People mistake the club with the branch, which while closely linked, were two separately run things,” explained Colin.

“It’s sad the club has now gone, but myself and other members quickly came to the decision it was vital to try and keep the branch alive to help serve the community as well as former military personnel whereever and in whatever way we could.”

Colin, who served in the Royal Navy for over 20 years, meets with fellow ex- servicemen and women once a month +at a new venue and is keen to keep the branch alive.

“There are people who have nobody to turn to after their military career and we are here to offer support and assistance,” he said.

“There are a lot of service personnel and ex-serving members of the public that we are here for if needed.”

Having previously met at the former club building in Woodside, club members now gather on the second Thursday of every month at Warout Stadium from 8pm, new members are always welcome.
