Super-fast broadband arrived in Glenrothes last week as part of £2.5 billion roll-out of the service being undertaken by BT.
More than 2000 homes in the north of the town will now benefit from the improved service and that figure is set to rise to more than 4700 as engineers complete the local upgrade in the weeks ahead.
Tricia Marwick, MSP for Mid Fife and Glenrothes, said it was great news for the town.
“Super-fast fibre broadband in north Glenrothes will benefit both residents and businesses,” she explained.
“Broadband is an essential part of Fife’s present and future.
“It’s vital that we embrace this latest generation of technology in order for our local economy to remain competitive.
“Better, faster communications boost businesses, helping them grow, and create more jobs.
“What’s more, local residents can enjoy faster browsing and downloading at home.”
The next upgrades will be to Glenrothes’ central and south exchanges which will allow more than 18,000 homes and businesses to benefit from the programme by the end of spring next year.
