Following on from a Kirkcaldy sign shop hitting back at a Kirkcaldy hotel over an unpaid bill, it has now stepped in to help one of its customers who has also been left out of pocket.

Sandy’s Sign Shop in the town’s Links Street made a special sign for Painting Places, a Glenrothes-based property maintenance and decorating firm whose owner Stephen McLachlan claims he is owed over £4000 by The Raven Hotel.

Stephen (52), who has run his business for 28 years, says he decorated seven bedrooms and a two-bedroomed flat as well as corridors, the reception area, bar and restaurant along with other renovation work including knocking down a wall and rebuilding the bar in August and September last year.

And he says he was just a week from finishing the job, with only the function suite left to paint, when he was told to leave because he was behind schedule and the hotel had to open.

“The reason I was behind by only days was because I had done a lot more than I had originally been asked to do,” said Mr McLachlan. “I was told to leave in no uncertain terms and he hasn’t returned a call from me since.

“Sandy suggested he make another sign and I felt this was the only way to get his attention.”

Stephen is pictured with his sign reading “I am overcome with emulsion. When will the Raven Hotel pay me?” with the hotel in the background.

The move comes after Sandy McLure, owner of Sandy’s Sign Shop put a sign in his own window in the form of a spoof quiz question asking when he would be paid for the signs he made for the hotel.

Again, despite asking for a response from The Raven, nobody was available to answer.
