Glenrothes residents asked: '˜What should we do with 10K?'

Community engagement projects were specifically earmarked as beneficiaries for the £10,000 award given by the Glenrothes Area Committee.

A family fun day will mark the occassion on Wednesday, February 17, at Southwood Primary School, Glenrothes from 3.30pm, where people are encouraged to attend and bring with them lots of ideas as to how to put the funds to best use.

People attending will get the chance to vote for projects they would like to see improve Macedonia.

Last October, Glenrothes Area Committee awarded £10,000 for community engagement in Macedonia and now is the time to help decide how that money is used within the area.

Councillor Bill Brown, chairman of Glenrothes area committee said: “This family fun day offers Macedonia residents the opportunity to have their say on what matters to them.

“There’s a number of projects suggested that’ll improve the quality of life in Macedonia.

“We want local people to decide which projects are taken forward and receive funding.

“I encourage as many people as possible to come along, join in the fun and have their say.”

A survey was recently carried out in Macedonia to find out what concerns residents the most and where they think money should be spent improving the area.

Suggestions so far have included: painting stairwells in Glenwood flats; high schools anti-litter project; park spring clean; small goals for the park; murals, and community planting.

At the family fun day, people will cast their vote with a heart – two hearts per person – which will be issued at registration.

Also attending the family fun day will be various services and organisations offering helpful advice.

Cllr Brown concluded: “This is a new approach for our area.

“If successful, we will roll it out to other areas of Glenrothes, giving more people the chance to influence decisions.”
