A KEY component in the re-generation of Glenrothes town centre is a step closer, reports MIKE DELANEY.

Co-operative Insurance Society has lodged a planning application for changes to a former hotel, which is intended to become the new home for the CISWO Club.

It is scheduled to move from its current North Street site to make way for the Tesco store which is to be built at the Falkland Gate entrance to the Kingdom Centre.

The application to Fife Council seeks permission for “external alterations to and extension of a licensed hotel, restaurant and function hall to form a licensed club with restaurant, function and conference facilities” at the Forum in North Street.

The club has re-commenced talks with the mall owners after last month threatening to pull the plug on the plan because of a lack of progress and the need to re-furbish the current premises.
