A glowing report for Capshard

Inspectors identified a series of key strengths at Capshard Primary School, highlighting that pupils were ‘well behaved, polite and eager to learn’.

They also praised the ‘readiness of staff to take leadership roles and responsibility for school improvement’ and the ‘promising start made by the acting headteacher and the wider acting leadership team to build capacity in the school to improve outcomes for all children’.

In addition, inspectors noted the ‘high-quality experiences for children in the nursery which are leading to very good progress in their learning’.

The school, situated on Barry Road in Dunnikier estate has expanded its catchment zone in recent years to take in pupils from the new Hollybrae development.

The school roll in 2010 stood at 300 pupils but has since risen.

Despite not increasing physically in size, the school building now accommodates 545 pupils, including 120 nursery places.

Caroline Bruce, who has headed Torbain Primary School for a number of years, also took on the role as headteacher at Capshard last year.

She commented: “As a school we are delighted that HMi recognised the good practice taking place in Capshard as well as our clear vision for the future.

She added: “The whole school community is pleased with the outcome of the report and the confidence it has given us to move forward.”
