All’s fare for Methil bus driver Grant Lauder, who has steered his way to the finals of a national competition.

Grant, based at Stagecoach’s Aberhill depot, was runner-up in the Driver of the Year award for this year’s Bus Driver Of The Year competition within east Scotland.

He and the winner, Brian Mackie of Dunfermline, will be heading for Blackpool in September to take part in the national finals.

Grant and a number of Stagecoach East Scotland’s other best drivers took part locally in the annual contest last month.

Proving their driving skills with a short drive around Kirkcaldy, they then completed a special theory test, which included questions on road safety and hazard awareness.

Brian Mackie won the title for the second time in seven years, while Lee Holmes, also from Dunfermline, was third.

Andrew Jarvis, managing director of Stagecoach East Scotland, said: “Many of our drivers across East Scotland consistently surpass our expectations in their day-to-day duties and it’s great that their efforts can be rewarded.”
