Beveridge Park has once again been named one of the top parks in the country but this year it has been joined locally by two others.
For the next 12 months Ravenscraig Park and Silver Sands and Hawkcraig, will also fly prestigious Green Flags alongside the west Kirkcaldy park.
It, like its fluttering counterpart - the more talked about Blue Flag award for beaches - is awarded by Keep Scotland Beautiful.
The independent environmental charity rewards flags to signify a park is a “quality green space”. The only other Fife award winner was Letham Glen in Leven which won its first ever flag.
“This is a wonderful achievement for Fife, we’ve leapt from one to four Green Flags,” said Peter Howden, development manager for Parks and Countryside.
“Despite severe cuts in funding we are still delivering quality services that are receiving national recognition.
“I want to thank and congratulate everyone involved in making this happen, from the parks staff to the local communities for all their hard work.”
The parks were assessed by volunteer judges with a background in parks management, conservation or ecology, who used eight criteria to test whether the parks and green spaces were worthy.
Jim Leishman, provost, heralded the awards.
He said: “We have many beautiful parks right across Fife and to receive Green Flag status for four is fantastic news.
“It comes at a time when we are celebrating 44 days of summer where we are encouraging people to get out and about and enjoy what Fife has to offer.
“We’d encourage Fifers of all ages to visit one of our fabulous parks and hope these accolades will attract visitors from further afield too.”
In total 51 flag were awarded throughout Scotland.
Carole Noble, head of environmental services for Keep Scotland Beautiful, also had praise for Fife. She said: “The people of Fife should be very proud. These four fantastic parks are rightly being awarded for their quality and for what they offer to locals and visitors alike. They sit proudly alongside the many Seaside Award and Blue Flag beaches that Keep Scotland Beautiful has also awarded in Fife.’’
David Torrance MSP has put forward a motion to the Scottish Parliament congratulating both Beveridge Park and Ravenscraig Park, which are in his Kirkcaldy constituency.
