The mix of teens and adults are due to catch a flight to Bordeaux this evening before travelling to the city of Bruges for the event, which will be held tomorrow (Friday).

During a special ceremony at the town hall, Levenomuth and Bruges will be officially twinned, with Linda Judge representing the Levenmouth Twinning Association (LTA), and Councillor Tom Adams acting on behalf of the Fife Provost’s office.

There was plenty of excitement in the air as the group boarded the bus at the Buckhaven Beehive this afternoon, and there’s lots to look forward to with a packed schedule between now and July 5.

Rachael Kyle, a vocalist who has just left Buckhaven High School, said: “I’m really excited about the trip. I can’t wait to do all the sightseeing and meet lots of new people - it’s a really good opportunity for us.”

The group, made up of musicians, vocalists and dancers from Buckhaven High School, elected members, Fife Council staff, LTA, Fife Council youth workers and representatives from the Methil Sea Cadets, Leven Rotary Club, CLEAR, the Save the Wemyss Ancient Caves Society, and the Scottish Youth Parliament, will be visiting a number of sites in the city, and will even be treated to a wine tour in the Médoc region.

They will be joining Linda, who travelled out last weekend, as well as the Coaltown Daisies, who’ve been heavily involved in creating the link between the twin towns, having already travelled to Bruges last Christmas.

In the last few days, they’ve already held a number of workshops and performed for locals.

During the trip, the Levenmouth visitors will be staying with host families.

Blair Denwette from LTA said the trip was “very significant” for Levenmouth, adding: “It’s particularly significant given everything that is going on with the EU right now. This is our time to show that the love still exists between our two countries and shows that we want to work with Europe.”
