Tricia Marwick MSP for Mid Fife and Glenrothes has welcomed new figures which show the number of Fifers registered with an NHS dentist continues to rise.
The statistics, published by ISD Scotland, reveal that thousands of extra Fifers now have access to an NHS dentist. As of September this year, 245,399 people living in Fife are registered with an NHS dentist, compared to 225,790 in September 2010. In the last few months, two new NHS dental centres have opened in Glenrothes and Methil.
Mrs Marwick spoke of her delight at the news.
She said: “These figures are most welcome and I am delighted that more and more Fifers are now registered with an NHS dentist.
“These figures show great strides have been made to achieve this but there is still work to be done and I will continue to work with NHS Fife to ensure as many people have access to an NHS dentist as possible.
“I am confident these new centres will add to the continuing improvements of dental services in the local area.”
The new dental centres contain six surgeries as well as staff and support facilities, including dedicated decontamination areas and a radiographic area.
