Help us to catch our son's killer

John (68) and Margaret (67) Adie broke down in tears as John read out a statement at Kirkcaldy Police Station.

Darren (42) died after he was found injured on Tweed Avenue in the town on May 28.

John said the family were “devastated” at Darren’s death and appealed for anyone with any information to come forward.

“He will never see his kids grow up,” he said.

“Our family have lost a son, a brother, a nephew and an uncle.

“Darren’s kids, a son aged seven and a daughter aged nine, have lost a father. Just imagine what his kids will feel growing up knowing that their father was murdered and left lying in the street.

“We would like some answers and we need to know what led to our son dying in Tweed Avenue that Saturday.

“We want to bury our son and we can’t do that until Darren’s killer has been arrested.”

DCI Raymond Brown said they had identified a 25 minute frame of time which may prove key in identifying Darren’s killer.

He said: “At around 6 pm that night Darren was in the Overton Mains area on Overton Road and he was seen shouting on a person named Kelly, which could have been a male or a female, who we are keen to speak to.

“Darren was seen in the area of the Nisa shop there and Valente’s chip shop. From there he moved on foot around Beatty Crescent which has taken him back to Overton Road and has then moved through Overton Mains to Spey Avenue at the junction with Napier Street.

“It was there we understand he was in some dialogue with another male who we know to be white in his 40s with a bald head wearing a blue t-shirt and grey joggers.

“From there he moved on to Tweed Avenue.”

DCI Brown said investigations have uncovered two separate couples that Darren walked past on Tweed Avenue that day, who police are keen to speak to.

He said: “The first couple are a male between 20-30 years old, chubby build, with short brown hair wearing a white vest top and grey joggers.

“In particular this male was walking with a limp which people or the male himself may be able to recall from that time.

“The person he was with was a female who is described as slim, wearing a black top, possibly a hoodie, with brown shoulder length hair which significantly has a red tint through it.

“The second couple are a male and female in their 20s who were pushing a double buggy up Tweed Avenue.

“Finally there is another individual who was possibly assisting Darren who was a male in a grey hoodie and grey joggers.

“We are looking at the 25 minute window from Darren leaving Overton Road chip shop to quarter to seven where he was found lying dying in the street.”

DCI Brown said there were over 100 sightings of Darren on the day of his death but is still appealing for anyone in the Gallatown area where Darren grew up to get in touch if they have any information.

“We believe there is still information in the community,” he said.

“I would urge anybody who saw Darren or who spoke to Darren that day who has not yet spoken to the police to come forward.

“It may be that they think the information they hold is minor or insignificant - let us be the judge of that.

“Darren’s parents are here today and there may be a person who hold the piece of the jigsaw which will help identify Darren’s killer and give John and Margaret some closure.”
