Christmas is coming, and the stage is set for Glenrothes Theatre Company's annual pantomime.

Over the years, the group has built up a reputation for providing great family entertainment – and their 2016 show is eagerly awaited.

Snow White, that most classic of pantos, takes to the stage atRothes Halls, from tonight (Wednesday).

Following her policy of introducing talented youngsters to the stage, producer Norma Nicol has cast three members of her evening drama classes at Glenwood School Community Use in major parts.

The title role is taken by Katie Elliot, with Gemma Collins and Beth Mudie as Fairy Snow and Fairy Liquid.

Katie (14) is no stranger to the stage, having had speaking parts as Elaine-a-Dale in the Company’s ‘Robin Hood’ in 2014 and the Ship’s Mate in “Dick Whittington” last year, and is now taking her first leading role.

Also fourteen, Gemma has made several appearances with the group, including playing one of the Babes in the Wood in “Robin Hood”.

Beth (12) is becoming a regular junior member of the Company’s productions.
She took her first major speaking role last year as Alice Fitzwarren in “Dick Whittington” and then played heroine Charity in the company’s summer production of “Scoundrels and Stratagems”.

Snow White’s Prince Charmian is played by Jessica Daly.

She has taken several leading roles with the company since the title role in “Cinderella” in 2012.

The evil Queen Griselda who sees Snow White as her rival to be the fairest of them all is played Stephanie Childs.

After playing such characters as the Sheriff of Nottingham and Dracula in recent productions, Don Roth puts on a dress and wig to play Dame Trott, Snow White’s nurse.

Aileen Henderson also makes a gender change to play Snow White’s father, King Griswold.

Nikki Black, who has been assisting with directing the show, plays doddery family servant Tripp. Comedy duo Dot and Carrie are played by long-serving members Audrey Stevenson and Lee Bernard, while Prince Charmian’s mother Queen Gertrude is played by Anna Gorniak.

In a departure from tradition, there are only three dwarves – in this age of political correctness re-named ‘vertically challenged people – who are played by Susan Collins, Wendy Simpson and Norma Nicol.

The show is written and directed by local playwright Ron Nicol, whose adaptation of Hans Christian Andersen’s “The Snow Queen” is playing this week in Colorado and Minnesota.

His plays have also been performed recently in Yorkshire, Leicestershire, Cambridgeshire, Dublin, Wisconsin, Arizona and Ohio.

Snow White opens at Rothes Halls on Wednesday December 14 at 7.30pm.

There are also performances on Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
