Hospice garden makeover thanks to volunteers

Volunteers who have worked over the summer at Victoria Hospice, Kirkcaldy, to create a beautiful garden area for patients and volunteers.

And volunteers at the Victoria Hospice, Kirkcaldy, have been spending their summer helping to improve its garden area.

The newly refurbished garden has seen the addition of new troughs, hanging baskets, patio furniture and awnings, and volunteers have been working closely with a professional gardener and a local Tesco community team to make it a place both patients and relatives can enjoy.

Scott Sweaton, senior charge nurse at the hospice, said: “In the summer months these improvements make it more attractive for patients and relatives to go out into the garden, or if they are unable to do so, to open their patio doors and look out into it with its bright colours.

“We have only been able to achieve these improvements with the continued support of our invaluable volunteers, not just in the garden but also within the day hospice in general.

“Without this support we would not be able to make a lot of the extra improvements to the environment that they have helped with over the years and we are extremely grateful for the contribution they continue to make.”

The hospice on Hayfield Road provides inpatient and day care for people with cancer and other progressive illnesses from Central Fife.

It also provides bereavement services.
