DEMOLITION vehicles moved in on Monday to pull down a Buckhaven cottage which was the scene of a horrifying double murder.

In fading daylight, the job began to demolish Muiredge Cottage on Methilhaven Road – where, three years ago, Rab Thomson brutally killed his 25-year-old daughter Michelle and son Ryan (7).

The property was screened off by fencing and temporary traffic lights as the work finally started, after months spent by Fife Council acquiring the property and disconnecting its utilities.

The house has remained unoccupied and the windows boarded up since the events of May 3, 2008, with its prominent location acting as a bleak reminder of the tragedy that day.

Thomson was sentenced in October 2008 to life imprisonment and told he must serve at least 17 years. The Crown failed in a May 2010 bid to increase the minimum term he should serve before being considered for parole.
