East Wemyss country singer Janey Kirk has landed her very own TV show, which started filming yesterday (Tuesday).
The talented songstress, who has been on the music scene since the age of six, will host and perform the feature programme, simply called ‘The Janey Kirk Show’, while welcoming other talented singers and providing a platform for a wealth of singing talent too.
The show has been in the works for a few months now, and filming officially got under way this week, with hopes that the final product will air on the Irish TV channel on Sky (channel 191) later in the spring, perhaps as early as March.
Janey explained: “(The idea) came about as many of the existing shows on Sky play my music videos and I really saw how much this had an impact on my careeer, bringing a whole new band of new followers to my Youtube links and web page, etc.
“So after a few talks with the Irish Music channel, we came to an agreement that my own TV show would be good for the channel.”
Not a stranger to a TV camera, Janey was also a presenter on the popular SKY TV show ‘Music Express Extra’, which was based down in Blackpool, where she interviewed well-known and up and coming artists from all over the UK and Ireland. As well as chatting to people, such as good friend Rose Marie, Janey also performed.
For her first solo show, Janey is excited to be showcasing the talents of fellow Scottish singer Lena Martell – who had a number one single with the hit ‘One Day at a Time’ in 1979 and with whom Janey forged a good friendship with in 2011.
“Lena and I have been good friends since I toured the UK with her, Philomena Begley and Billie Jo Spears... boy, that was fun!”
As well as her TV show, Janey is still promoting her current album, ‘Streets of Loneliness’, which was released in 2014, as well as working on a new DVD compliation of her best loved songs, entitled ‘Island of Dreams’.
And like every seasoned perfomer, Janey has a number of local gigs lined up for the year – including some theatre dates in July – and is busy rehearsing currently with a five-piece band.
