Jail for robbery at cash machine

Andrew Wilson, 32, has been jailed for 26 months for a string of offences committed last year.

Wilson, a prisoner in Perth, admitted a string of offences at Co-op shops in the area.

He admitted that on September 3 at the store in High Street, Markinch, he stole alcohol and groceries; on December 14 at the shop in Wellesley Road, Methil, he stole alcohol; on December 18 at Kennoway branch he assaulted a man, threatened to stab him if he did not give him money, and demanded that he withdrew money from a cash machine.

He also admitted at Victoria Hospital, Kirkcaldy being in possession of heroin.

Depute fiscal Claire Bremner told Dunfermline Sheriff Court that the robbery victim had stopped to use an ATM.

The man took out £50 when he became aware of Wilson behind him touching his jacket then saying, “hand over the money or I will stab you.”

Wilson leant forward, took the money and asked for more. The victim used his bank card again and selected the £20 option.

“The accused tried to select the £100 option. He told the man to walk up the road with him or ‘I will do you in’.”

Shortly afterwards, Wilson met someone he knew in the street and told him aboput the attack. The man later reported this to the police.

Defence solicitor David Bell said his client was not armed at the time.

Sheriff Craig McSherry told Wilson he had an “appalling record” and jailed him for a total of 26 months backdated to December 21 when he was taken into custody.
