Jobs are to be created in Methil thanks to a big contract win for project management and technology firm Unasys.

The company, which is based in the north east of England, beat its competitors to land a major contract with GDF Suez for the Cygnus Gas Field project, the sixth largest gas field in the southern North Sea. The Cygnus project will utilise the Unasys completions management software, ePM, to manage construction close-out, commissioning and start-up of all project facilities. The project will be engineered in London, and fabricated in Methil and Hartlepool, before being transported offshore for installation in 2015.

Michael Flynn, company director, said: “It’s fantastic that all of the facilities are to be engineered and fabricated in the UK, and that we have been selected. This allows us to retain and create jobs in both the north-east and in Scotland.”

He added: “We will also be providing members of their experienced network, most of whom have worked on similar oil and gas projects throughout the world in the past 25 years.”
