An 11-year-old Glenrothes boy is trying to contain his excitement ahead of a big week playing a major role in the Broadway hit musical ‘Mame’ at Rothes Halls.
Joel Allsopp is starring in Glenrothes Amateur Musical Association’s (GAMA) production.
The story revolves around Auntie Mame and how she adapts to life when she finds herself responsible for looking after her nephew Patrick, her only living relative.
Joel first took to the stage in February, playing the Artful Dodger in GAMA Youth’s ‘Oliver!’, but this production sees him playing a pivotal role at the heart of the adult theatre company.
The Carleton Primary pupil, said: “I didn’t know how much I would enjoy acting and singing until I joined GAMA Youth last year. I was more interested in ice hockey. But it is so exciting to be on the stage making the audience laugh and maybe even cry as Young Patrick.”
Joel learned last week he had also been cast as Gavroche in next year’s youth version of ‘Les Miserables’.
GAMA’s production of ‘Mame’ is at Rothes Halls from September 30 to October 4.
