Joy for blind Fife teen after heartless trike theft

Joe Carberry (14), who is blind and autistic, had hoped the trike would enable him to play ‘like normal children.’

His mum Michelle had paid £55 for the specially-adapted trike at Castle Furniture in East Burnside – but heartless thieves made off with it before Joe even had the chance to ride it.

As of last night, the trike still hadn’t turned up but Michelle told us she’d been ‘overwhelmed’ by the generosity of people who wanted to help after they heard of Joe’s plight.

Now Joe is looking forward to taking delivery of a customised trike thanks to Kent-based specialist manufacturer Mission Cycles, Leslie Bike Shop and Kingdom FM’s Kingdom Kids campaign.

“It was never about the money,” said Michelle.

“Joe was so looking forward to having the trike as he said he’d be able to go out and play ‘like normal children,’ as he put it.

“After we launched an appeal on Facebook, we were inundated with offers of help. We have been overwhelmed by people’s kindness.”
