Kai Humphries: How To Be Happy

Gilded Balloon (Venue 44)

I first saw Kai Humphries at Forth on the Fringe’s gig at the very start of the festival - and his ten-minute slot was one of the highlights of the showcase across both nights.

He had the 3000-full house Playhouse collapsing with laughter as he delivered his ‘50 Shades Of Blyth’ routine - a superb set piece that had folk almost falling off their chairs.

It forms just a part of his ‘How To Be Happy’ set and was just as funny the second time round in a much smaller venue deep within the Gilded Balloon premises in Bristo Square.

But it’s also just one part of a smashing set in which the amiable, affable Humphries looks at the route to happiness.

He draws heavily on his own north-east upbringing, and life today in Edinburgh where his flatmate is one Daniel Sloss.

Life’s good, and he’s happy to share it with his audiences - even the racket from the show next door doesn’t upset him.

He draws on his own life for much of his material and is happy to send himself up throughout an hour of engaging comedy.

He set out to make everyone happy, and more than succeeded.

And if you want to know more about his take on ‘50 Shades’ then go and see him!
