Pupils at East Wemyss Primary School’s Allotment Club had a bit of a shock when they went to harvest the last of their vegetables last week - a giant courgette!
Claire Allan, acting principal teacher, said: “There was a lot of screaming and excitement when one of the children moved the leaves of the courgette plant and found the beastly courgette. It weighed five kilograms (11lbs) and was 63 centimetres long. The other courgettes had been harvested in the summer holidays but one must have been missed and continued to grow! It has been a bumper year for produce and the children are excited to plant again to see what delights next year will bring!”
