CULT music favourite King Creosote is set to make a special Christmas guest appearance in Anstruther.

The 2011 Mercury Music Prize nominee and Fence Records favourite has been asked to switch on the Christmas tree lights at this year’s festive harbour display.

The event is this Friday, December 9, in its familiar location by the seafront.

The switch-on is due around 6.30pm, while there should be some additional excitement for the children with a visit by Santa Claus to the Treasure toy shop, opposite the Folly.

Members of Anstruther Operatic Society are also due to perform Christmas carols.

The King, alias Kenny Anderson, already has another engagement on Friday, so the organisers said they were very pleased he could find the time to bathe the burgh in its festive glow.

Kenny, right, modestly described himself as “not a real celeb” and reckoned some of Friday’s revellers might wonder who he was.

“As for the actual switching on of the tree lights, I’m glad that after 22 years, my degree in electronic and electrical engineering is at last being put to good use,” he quipped.
